I’m Kadey!

Here’s my bio:

Kadey Ambrose is a basketmaker. Her work, ranging from traditional “using” baskets to inventive woven forms, connects ancient craft and ethnobotanical knowledge with the innovations of living culture.

Kadey holds a BAS in Ethnobotany from The Evergreen State College and an MA in Studio Art from Eastern Illinois University, both focused on basketry. In 2020, she was part of the inaugural Traditional Craft Mentorship Program at the John C. Campbell Folk School, and in 2022, she was a member of the American Craft Council’s Emerging Artist Cohort. Kadey is currently a Creativity Ambassador with the Alaska State Council on the Arts’ How Are You Creative? initiative and an artist-in-residence with In a Time of Change: Coastal Transitions, an arts-humanities-science collaboration exploring ecological and cultural change in the Gulf of Alaska. She serves on the Northwest Basket Weavers Guild board of directors and is an active member of the National Basketry Organization.

Kadey weaves in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she grew up and where her work is rooted in place, plants, and the belief that creativity is strongest when it happens in community.
